Is it an ant or a wasp ... ?

At the moment (May) there are many of these attracted to my light at night. They are all over the front door and lights. They are very active and will attack prey. I would say that they are ants, but I wasn't aware that ants attacked alone. That said, I don't know of any nocturnal wasps. They vary in size (all small, but some are tiny) and colour (brownish to black). Any advice?
