Cicadas should be heard and not seen ...

How many times have you heard cicadas 'whistling' louder than a kettle boiling, yet you NEVER get to see them? I have spotted a few, but they always seem to vanish the second you try to take a photo of them. The other day, however, one came crashing into the living room, attracted by the table lamp. I picked it up in a cupped hand and eventually it relaxed (actually, I struggled to get it off my hand afterwards as it was rather comfortable indeed). It was amazing to look at, especially from the front where it looks like the front of a 50s American car. But be warned! Though they can't bite, this one constantly tried to pierce my skin with its sucker thingy. It wasn't that painful, but it was a little unnerving.

Order: Hemiptera (true bugs, hoppers, cicadas etc.)
Family/genus: Unknown
Vernacular name: Unknown
Scientific name: Unknown

Here it is, back on a tree (actually, just a log in the garden). Maybe that's why you rarely see them!
