This is what 'whipped' me into action ...
Sorry. Terrible pun, I know. Yet this little critter is a rather rare thing indeed (I've only seen 2 in 8 years - one on Koh Samet and the other, this one in Khon Kaen). He (though maybe a she) was poking his head out from under a small plastic pot near the front door. When I tried to take a photo of him, he was wary of me and arched his back to show me his whip ... fortunately, I knew that they were harmless, even being a scorpion. He stayed there for a few days, but has now disappeared, unfortunately. Easily the best thing I have spotted in my garden and has prompted me into writing a blog on all bugs (and other things) I find at home! I will also be adding other interesting things I find whilst out looking for dragonflies around Thailand.
Order: Arachnida (spiders, scorpions etc.)
Family/genus: Unknown
Vernacular name: Whiptail Scorpion (I think)
Scientific name: Unknown (please help)

Whiptailed Scorpion, totally harmless ... and quite beautiful, I think. |
